Background
Rosalind is a certified Pilates instructor on the mat and equipment through the Kane School of Core Integration, and completed her FAMI certification (Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injury) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She has deepened her understanding of movement and injury by working with leaders in the field such as Madeline Black, Kuan Hui Chew, Christine Wright, Kelly Kane, Jane Clapp and Marimba Gold-Watts.
Rosalind’s study of Pilates began in 2002, when she began using the method to rehabilitate her own knee and hip injuries. After completing her certification she worked at Kinected and Mongoose Bodyworks in New York as an instructor, and also as a supervising teacher at the Kane School. In 2015 Rosalind opened her own practice and began working closely with physical therapists, trainers, nutritionists, and coaches across New York to help their clients achieve greater strength and resiliency. In September 2020 Rosalind was graciously welcomed into the studio space at IPA Manhattan Physical Therapy, where she closely collaborated with the therapists on continuing their patients’ care with Pilates. In July 2023 Rosalind opened a fully equipped Pilates studio in NoMad, where she is able to provide dynamic, focused, and thorough sessions in a completely private setting.
Approach
Sessions with Rosalind begin with a thorough assessment; each client is considered not only within the context of their injuries and fitness habits, but also the demands of their daily lives and long term goals. Rosalind then creates a unique program grounded in the Pilates choreography and integrates elements of strength training, dance technique, and other modalities where useful. The focus is always on healthy alignment and efficient muscular recruitment, and exercises are selected that safely challenge strength, stability and range of motion.
Rosalind also believes in educating clients on the basics of anatomy and joint mechanics as a vital part of the process of becoming stronger and more confident movers. This integrated approach deepens body awareness and helps support functional movement patterns that extend beyond the session into any other exercise program, sport or activity.
